Environmental journalists in Cambodia are working under increasing pressure and face growing threats.

CamboJA recorded 41 cases of harassment against at least 64 journalists in 2024. The most frequent type of harassment experienced was legal, of which CamboJA counted 28 incidents, including legal actions, license revocations, arrests, imprisonment, and threat of legal action. Overall, cases of harassment were most often linked to coverage of deforestation and environmental issues, followed by land disputes and gambling/online scams.

To respond to these challenges, CamboJA offer free legal and psychosocial support services tailored specifically for environmental journalists in Cambodia.

Our goal is to:

  • Provide legal assistance through counseling and representation in the court to those facing lawsuits, intimidation, or legal threats
  • Offer psychosocial support to help manage stress, trauma, or emotional fatigue and to build resilience through counselling with experts

We believe no journalist should feel alone in their work. Whether you are under pressure, feeling isolated, or simply need advice — our team is here to help.
