Assignment Period: March 18 – December 31, 2024

1. About CamboJA

CamboJA is a membership association of Cambodian journalists and media workers established in 2019. Our work focuses on, (1) supporting and protecting journalists at risk and/or harassed and their family members of concern to be able to continue their journalistic jobs and secure their livelihoods; (2) advocating for enabling environment and pro-media regulation and enforcement, and (3) making credible news available and accessible for news audiences.

 

2. About the Assignment  

We are currently seeking a skilled video production consultant or a team of consultants who will be able to plan and produce video content based on the needs of the Research & Advocacy and Capacity Development Programs. This is a firm-fixed-price contract and payment will be made upon delivery of each video content or as otherwise agreed by both parties. The price will be pre-determined based on negotiation between CamboJA and the qualified consultants. The selected consultants are expected to be available and flexible to meet the needs of the programs. 

3. Scope of Work 

Upon signing off the contract, the consultants are expected to start producing the first two videos under the Research & Advocacy program and finalize them no later than April 2024. The videos aim to document key safety issues facing journalists in Cambodia and advocate for improvement in their work conditions. The production of the other two videos will start in July 2024 and will focus on educating media practitioners about media ethics and relevant laws concerning news reporting practices.  

 

No Assignment Production Period  
1 Two advocacy videos featuring journalists’ safety issues and press freedom in Cambodia (between 3 – 5 minutes) Mid-March – end of April 2024  
2 Two educational videos on media ethics and professionalism (between 3 – 5 minutes) July – December 2024 
3 Other videos as assigned  TBD 

 

The responsibilities include:

  • Plan and execute the entire cycle of video projects from story development, research, production, and final editing, in consultation with CamboJA program staff  
  • Develop video scripts and interview questions 
  • Identify interviewees and carry out interviews based on the approved production plan 
  • Collect relevant footage/archives required for each video 
  • Prepare and edit subtitles in Khmer/English for each video 
  • Operate digital cameras, audio recorders, microphones, lights, … to achieve high-quality videos, including lighting set up, camera set up, interview shooting, B-roll shooting  
  • Complete assignments in a timely and professional manner 
  • Travel to provinces to produce the videos as needed (In such cases, CamboJA will cover travel-related costs based on CamboJA policy). 

 

Note: All these processes must be done in consultation with CamboJA team.

4. Qualifications 

  • At least 3 years of work experience in video production (Candidates with journalism background would be preferred.) 
  • Possess own equipment, materials, and software to carry out the assignments  
  • Ability to independently operate video production equipment and produce complete video packages 
  • Availability to carry out video projects throughout the assignment period 
  • Understanding of Cambodia's media landscape is a plus.
