With the support from Internews under the Indo-Pacific Media Advance Program (IPMAP), CamboJA is implementing a six-month stipend-based internship program by providing on-the-job training and mentoring to a Cambodian youth who demonstrates potential to become a professional journalist. The intern will spend his/her time with CamboJA News for six months on a full-time basis to learn about news reporting.

The recruited intern will be mentored by the in-house senior reporter and actively engaged in the daily news production process including reporting assignments, contacting sources, conducting research for a story, interviewing sources, and news writing. The intern is expected to continue developing his/her journalistic capacity beyond the internship period.

Responsibilities

The intern is expected to fulfil the following responsibilities:

  • Actively participating in editorial meetings
  • Researching and pitching story ideas to the assigned mentor and editor
  • Gathering information through phone interviews and field interviews
  • Collaborating with the mentor and other in-house journalists to produce news stories in multi-format, if possible
  • Assisting in news material translation when needed
  • Providing regular updates to the mentor regarding his/her learning experience
  • Producing an internship report at the end of the internship period

It is expected that the intern will be able to produce and publish at least two news reports during the internship period.

  Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a Cambodian citizen under the age of 35
  • Have some educational background in journalism through a short course or undergraduate-level education (year-2/ year-3 student)
  • Have basic understanding of news reporting
  • Strong interest in journalism
  • Be willing to learn new things and adaptable to fast-paced environment
  • Have good English proficiency
  • Be a team player
