With supported from International Media Support (IMS), CamboJA is seeking a part-time Business Development Mentor/Consultant to support the business planning, partnerships, and implementation of revenue models, ensuring that our work aligns with CamboJA’s mission of fostering positive social change through independent media. IMS is a non-profit organization working to strengthen the capacity of local media to reduce conflict, strengthen democracy and facilitate dialogue.
Position Overview
The Business Development Mentor will work closely with CamboJA’s Business Development Specialist and relevant teams to implement business strategy and action plan identify potential partnerships, and provide technical support, particularly on digital marketing strategies.
The Mentor/Consultant will also provide strategic guidance and on-the-job coaching to equip CamboJA relevant staff with key business-related understanding, knowledge, skills and tools necessary for successful implementation of CamboJA’s non-grant income generation efforts, in alignment with our mission of fostering positive social change through independent media. This is a technical support role that works side-by-side with the Business Development Specialist and relevant teams under the Executive Director's supervision.
Key Responsibilities
The Mentor/Consultant will work closely with the Business Development Specialist and relevant teams to:
- Provide strategic guidance on business planning and revenue generation to increase non-grant incomes and promote business viability.
- Mentor and coach the Business Development Specialist and relevant staff members to strengthen their business understanding, knowledge, and skills in partnership building, business proposal development, and client engagement.
- Provide technical support to relevant teams to develop marketing toolkits/materials necessary for the implementation of revenue models, including advertising, content partnerships, monetization, and micro-funding/donations.
- Collaborate with the Business Development Specialist to identify and assess new business opportunities that align with CamboJA’s mission and values.
- Connect CamboJA business with potential partners, clients, and networks to expand CamboJA’s reach and income streams.
- Review and provide feedback on business plans, pitch decks, and partnership/business proposals.
- Build the capacity of the Business Development Specialist in social enterprise models and business development approaches relevant to independent media.
- Provide regular updates and recommendations to management on progress, challenges, and opportunities.
- Prepare an end-of-assignment report with strategic recommendations for sustaining business growth.
Deliverables (Mentorship Assignment)
1. Business Planning & Materials
- Support CamboJA to refine and finalize one core pitch deck tailored for potential partners/clients.
- Provide inputs to strengthen CamboJA’s media kit, including pricing recommendations for advertising and content partnerships.
2. Capacity Building
- Conduct at least two structured mentoring/coaching sessions with the Business Development Specialist, focusing on practical business tools such as partnership negotiation and digital marketing strategies.
- Share practical templates or reference materials for staff to continue using after the mentorship.
- Provide ongoing coaching and guidance to the Business Development Specialist throughout the assignment.
3. Partnership Development
- Provide guidance and feedback on identifying and approaching high-potential partners (NGOs, private sector, or media partners).
- Where feasible, facilitate one introduction or meeting with a relevant partner/network.
4. Reporting
- Submit a short end-of-assignment report summarizing:
- Key activities delivered
- Observations on CamboJA’s current business development capacity
- Practical recommendations for strengthening non-grant revenue streams
Working Conditions
Working hours: It is expected that a Mentor/Consultant will work with CamboJA team one day per week during this assignment, which should be completed within 3 months of the start date.
Location: Hybrid (remote and office based)
Contract and payment: The Mentor/consultant will be directly contracted by IMS to provide business development mentoring support to CamboJA as per TOR. The payment will be based on the achievement of the agreed-upon milestone stated in the TOR and Agreement.
Estimated budget: Up to 2,000 USD (Mentor/consultant is required to submit an expression of interest and budget proposal as part of the submission)
Qualifications and Skills
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in business management, digital marketing, media management, social entrepreneurship, or another relevant field.
- Experience:
- At least 4 years of experience in business development, sales, or partnership management, preferably within the media, non-profit, or social enterprise sectors. Experience in Cambodia's media sector is a plus.
- Experience in developing/managing partnerships that align with social missions.
- Technical Skills and Competency:
- Strong knowledge of social enterprise or business management.
- A good understanding of Cambodian media landscape, with a focus on social impact, community engagement, and ethical media practices.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders from the public, private, and non-profit sectors.
- Ability to think strategically and creatively to generate revenue while staying true to the organization's social purpose.
- Proficiency in digital marketing content production, and business management
- Languages: Fluency in Khmer and English (written and spoken).

- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and take initiative, as well as collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality and accuracy in all tasks
