Outstanding Member Awards Competition 2021

One of CamboJA’s primary core tenets is PROFESSIONALISM. Under Article Three of its statute, the Association is required among other things to work based on journalistic skills and knowledge, respect the code of ethics, and report without fear or favor.

Established by a group of Cambodian independent journalists in 2019, the association seeks to contribute to the improvement of media freedom and media development in the country. CamboJA is the only politically neutral association of journalists and media professionals in Cambodia, with over 100 registered members.

To honor the strong commitment, activism and high journalistic standards of our members especially their dedication to serving the public with reliable information during the COVID-19 pandemic, CamboJA is organising its first “Outstanding Member Awards Competition of​ the Year 2021.” Through this competition, we would like to promote the contribution of CamboJA members to democracy and good governance, promote media accountability and self-regulation, and encourage young workforce especially women to undertake career in journalism.

Winners will be announced during its annual members assembly to be held on 9th September 2021, which marks the 2nd anniversary of CamboJA inception. All applications will be reviewed and assessed by a panel of judges with extensive experiences in journalism and media development. Starting from this year, the awards will be given annually to journalists who have produced journalistic work that CamboJA can be proud of as exemplary for the profession and the practice of journalism in Cambodia. Five winners will be selected for each of the following categories:

1. Best Digital News Writer
2. Best Photojournalist
3. Best Video Journalist
4. Best Radio Journalist
5. Best Young Reporter

Winners will be awarded a trophy and cash prize.

Eligibility Criteria

You are eligible if:

• you are a member of CamboJA.
• you are able to prove ownership of the submitted work.
• the work you submit for the awards is original and published by a news outlet between September 9, 2020 and September 4, 2021.

You are not eligible if:

• you are a staff member, board member, or founding members of CamboJA.
• you are not a member of CamboJA
• you submit the work that has previously been awarded by CamboJA and our partners.

Once submitted, applications undergo a sift against our eligibility criteria. Any applications deemed ineligible will be removed from the selection process. Please note that once your application has been submitted, it is not possible to change it retrospectively.
