The Tech and Journalism in the Global South conference was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 22-24 July 2025. The more than 200 participants were representatives from journalism, NGOs, the private sector and government. They shared their concerns on AI development, which has threatened trust in the journalistic sector. They have asked governments to provide fair regulations, meaningful participation for consultation, investment in Media Information, Digital and AI literacy, construction of internet infrastructure and accessibility, and the establishment of a regional coalition across the Global South. They urged to big tech companies to be transparent and accountable, along with extending collaboration efforts to government, media and NGOs. The forum indicated the crucial roles of media by calling for further collaboration on AI. The forum also called upon the public to be more engaged in the question of AI development and literacy.
